The University of Exeter has created Exeter Turkish Studies, a research centre designed to achieve world-class research on Turkish history and culture from its origins to the present day.
The supporting of this research centre is inspired by the growing importance of Turkey as a major political and cultural player in the modern world. Exeter Turkish Studies combines resources and experience from several of Exeter University's Academic Schools to provide study of Turkey over a wide disciplinary range and with a deep historical perspective. There is extensive expertise and interest in Turkish Studies at Exeter, in Ancient History and Archaeology, Theology and Religious Studies, Literary and Cultural Studies, Modern History and Politics, Business Studies and Economics, and Environmental Science.
It is based in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, incorporating the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, with major participation from the School of Languages and Literature, the Business School, and the School of Geography, Earth Sciences and Archaeology.
