Originally, the Department of Turkish Studies and Inner Asian Peoples guided Altaic-oriented studies both in the field of teaching and research (Turkic, Mongolian, Manchu-Tungus). After the changes in organization of the Institute of the Oriental Studies and establishment of the Department of Inner Asia, the Chair`s profile changed: its teaching and research activity focused on the Mongolian Studies.
