University of Prishtina is located in Prishtina, Kosovo. The university was opened as one University in Socialist Republic of Serbia, Yugoslavia, in the city of Pristina, It was founded in in the academic year 1960/61.

Faculty of Philology has a long tradition and considerable experience. The Department of Albanian Language and Literature was founded in 1961.
